Dell Vostro 2510

The Inspiron-like Dell Vostro laptops have been haunting us for weeks now, but the mystery deepens with this Vostro 2510 that was spotted in a flier. The August 2008 Dell Business flier reads as such: “Coming this month: New! Dell Vostro 2510. Style meets performance.” As far as listed specs, we’ve got an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB DDR2 SDRAM, 160GB hdd, 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GPU, and integrated webcam. Pretty decent specs for the $899 price tag, we gotta say. The URL listed in the photo is indeed for the Vostro lappies, but the 2510 is, as of right now, mysteriously absent.

UPDATE: The Canadian Dell site has some official Vostro 2510 information and specs. [Thanks, jorvay!]

[Thanks, Dirk]

Sylvania MESO netbook

Sylvania, best know for their TV’s that are sold mainly at Wal-Mart has decided to enter into the already overcrowded netbook market. Sadly the MESO seems to be just another netbook, and overall nothing really special.

The MESO will feature an 8.9-inch display, 1.6GHZ Intel Atom processor, 80GB hard drive and a built-in card reader and webcam. The Sylvania will be running either Windows XP Home or Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Again similar to other netbooks, the MESO will be available in a variety of colors which include onyx, snow, solar and blossom, which are better known as black, white, yellow and pink.

Although it has not officially been announced, the MESO is expected to be available through Wal-Mart and retail for $299 and up.

60GB Xbox 360 now shipping from Amazon

Thursday 31 July 2008 @ 8:07 pm

A few 60GB Xbox 360s may have already slipped out to retailers (as evidenced above), but if you’re not interested in running around trying to track one down, you can now snag one from Amazon and rest assured that it’ll ship out post haste. If you’ve been following this SKU’s every move, you’ll notice that’s a few days ahead of the August 4th date that Amazon once listed, and the August 6th date that Circuit City still does — but hey, we’re not complaining.

[Thanks, Michael]

Update: Microsoft’s Major Nelson has now confirmed that there is no official street date for the new 60GB model, “they’ll just appear in the retail channels.” Is this what happens when Bill G is out of the picture? Next thing we know Microsoft will start showing up late for parties and asking to sleep on our couch.

Firefox 3.1 Alpha Improves the AwesomeBar

Thursday 31 July 2008 @ 8:07 pm
Though it’s been less than a month since Firefox 3’s blast-off into the Internet and a software download record, Mozilla developers have already distributed a very early preview of the next upgrade to the increasingly popular browser, code-named Shiretoko. The alpha version will be designated as Firefox 3.1 at final release and at this point is strictly intended for developers and testers. The underlying Gecko page-rendering engine is also being updated to version 1.9.1.

Team overclocks Core 2 Quad to 5.1GHz, claims world record — too bad it’s not

So we hate to break it to the good guys at Tom’s Hardware, but while we’re impressed that they managed to overclock a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 to 5.1GHz using a cryogenic cooling system, it’s not nearly close to the world record they’re claiming — we’ve seen P4’s atup to8.18GHz, and just a couple months ago someone jacked a Core 2 Extreme QX9775 on a Skulltrail board to 6GHz. Still, it’s always fun to watch people pour liquid nitrogen over a mobo — video after the break.
