Hogwash: Magical $5k Sleeping Bag Will Solve All of Your Problems

Tuesday 31 July 2007 @ 8:07 pm

oxygen-detox-system_48.jpgThis strange sleeping bag can do two distinct things. First, it can provide a bunch of nice therapies to your body, such as a steam sauna, water jets and oxygen misting. Second, it can easily detect wealthy idiots, as it has a pricetag of $5,000. But it “detoxes liver, gall bladder, and blood clotting cellular debris!” Yeah, OK. Hot water is really going to do wonders for your aching gall bladder. Here’s a tip: Live a healthy lifestyle. It’s cheaper and guaranteed to have a better effect on your body than this thing. iPhone’s first sketchy battery replacement kit appears

Tuesday 31 July 2007 @ 8:07 pm

Filed under:

When the time came and your battery died, you were probably thinking you’d have to send your iPhone off to Apple as part of their expensive and complicated battery replacement program — but now you’ve got a sketchy DIY option instead. Once again, a mysterious Chinese company has stepped in and “created” a “solution” to your problem with its iPhone battery replacement kit. For just $20, which is cheap enough to elicit genuine concern, you get a 1400mAh, 3.7V iPhone battery, some type of screwdriver-like tool, a strange plastic shiv, and an instruction manual (presumably in English, but you never know). All you have to do is crack open your $600 phone, de-solder your old battery and solder in the new one… and probably some other, more complicated stuff too. At this price, it seems unlikely that this battery won’t explode, so buy at your own risk, and definitely try at your own risk.

Review: Lightning Round: Kontrolfreek’s Speedfreek Xbox 360 Controller Attachment

Tuesday 31 July 2007 @ 8:07 pm

speedfreek.jpgThe gadget: Speedfreek, an add-on from Kontrolfreek for the Xbox 360’s left analog stick to make racing games easier to play by making the cars more precise to control.

The verdict: Pretty comfortable for racing games, because it allows you to use just the sides of your thumb to gently nudge the car left or right.

The catch:

It’s not great for anything but racing games, because the plastic attachment on the bottom makes pressing down hard on the stick slightly more uncomfortable. Kontrolfreek is working on an adapter for other genres.

The performance: Good. I don’t know if it made me any better at PGR, but it did make turns more comfortable since the grooved sides fit my thumb quite nicely.

The price: Pack of 2 for $9.95, or pack of 4 for $17.50.

The recommendation: If you’re a racing fan who doesn’t want to pony up for a racing wheel, this is a very cheap alternative.
